Downtown West Allis Business Improvement
District (BID) is a not for profit
organization established to serve the
merchants and property owners. Our major
focuses include the revitalization of the
historic business district through business
development initiatives and the promotion of
the district businesses through aggressive
marketing and organizing several special
events. Our most notable events include
the Annual Downtown West Allis Classic Car
Show and the Annual Holiday Stroll.

In 2001, Governor Scott McCallum selected
Downtown West Allis as a
Wisconsin
Main Street Community. The Main Street
Program is a technical assistance grant
which provides historic business districts
with small business support, redevelopment
materials, design assistance, and
organization guidance. There are over 30
Wisconsin communities including
Chippewa Falls,
Sheboygan Falls, Pewaukee,
Watertown, West
Bend and more!
West Allis is truly honored to be part of
this successful and proven program.

Downtown West Allis!
HOW DOES
THE MAIN STREET PROGRAM WORK?
ORGANIZATION:
Builds
partnerships among diverse groups - property
owners, merchants,
residents, bankers, public officials, the
business association and civic groups - who
must
work together to improve and maintain the
downtown.
PROMOTION:
Reestablishes a strong, positive image to
compete with other shopping
districts, rekindling community excitement
and involvement as well as improving sales.
Promotion ranges from street festivals to
retail merchandising, from community
education
to aggressive public relations.
DESIGN:
Attention
must be paid to all visual elements of the
downtown area - not just
buildings and storefront renovations, but
public improvements, rear entry clean-ups,
signage, landscaping, window displays and
graphic materials.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT:
Strengthens the existing business district
while recruiting
new stores to provide a balanced retail mix.
